Privacy policy

Privacy policies are usually written by lawyers for lawyers. They are full of jargon, repetitive clauses, and legal hedging that makes your eyes glaze over within two sentences. We want to explain, in plain language, what Email Dive collects, why it collects it, and what it does with that data. If something is unclear or you have a question this page does not answer, email us at contact@emaildive.com.

1. Who we are

Email Dive (emaildive.com) is an independent blog about email marketing software. It is owned and operated by Dhruvir Zala, based in Gujarat, India. The site exists to help businesses and individuals around the world find the right email marketing software through honest, hands-on reviews, comparisons, and guides.

To learn more about the site and its purpose, visit the About page. For any privacy-related matters, the point of contact is contact@emaildive.com.

2. What information we collect

We collect information in two ways: information you give us directly, and information that is collected automatically when you visit the site.

Information you give us directly

Contact form submissions: When you reach out through our contact page, we collect your name and email address. We use this only to respond to your message. We do not add you to any mailing list or use your contact details for marketing purposes.

Comments: If you leave a comment on an article, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your comment. Your email address is not publicly displayed on the site.

Information collected automatically

When you visit emaildive.com, certain technical data is collected automatically. This includes:

  • Your IP address
  • Browser type and version
  • The pages you visit and the time spent on each
  • How you arrived at the site (direct visit, search engine, or referral link)
  • Device type and operating system
  • Approximate location based on IP address (country or city level)

This data is collected through Google Analytics and our web hosting provider. We use it to understand what content is useful to readers and how the site is performing overall.

3. How we use your information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To respond to messages you send through the contact form
  • To understand how visitors use the site and to improve the content
  • To maintain and operate the site
  • To detect and address security issues

We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with third parties except as described in this policy.

4. Cookies

Email Dive uses cookies. A cookie is a small text file stored on your device when you visit a website. Here is a breakdown of the cookies used on this site:

Analytics cookies: Google Analytics places cookies to help us measure traffic and understand visitor behavior on the site. These cookies track things like the number of visitors, which pages are most popular, and how people navigate through the content.

WordPress cookies: WordPress, the software that powers this site, sets certain functional cookies that are needed for basic site operation. These are technical in nature and are not used for behavioral tracking or advertising.

Affiliate cookies: When you click an affiliate link on Email Dive and land on a software company’s website, that company may place a tracking cookie on your device. This is standard affiliate tracking used to attribute any purchase you make to our referral. These cookies are placed by third-party companies, not by Email Dive directly.

You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies at any time. If you block all cookies, certain parts of the site may not function as expected.

5. Third-party services

Email Dive uses a small number of third-party services to operate:

Google Analytics: We use Google Analytics to track site usage and visitor behavior. Google processes this data according to its own privacy policy. If you want to opt out of Google Analytics tracking entirely, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On.

WordPress and hosting: This site runs on WordPress. Our hosting provider may process technical data, such as IP addresses, in standard server logs, for security and operational purposes. Server logs are kept for a limited time and are not used for marketing or advertising.

Affiliate networks and programs: Email Dive participates in affiliate programs for many of the email marketing tools we review. When you click a link and make a purchase through it, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Each affiliate program operates under its own terms and privacy policy, which apply once you land on the software company’s website. See our affiliate disclosure for more details on how affiliate relationships work at Email Dive.

6. Affiliate links and your data

When you click an affiliate link on Email Dive and land on a third-party website, that company’s privacy policy governs what happens to your data from that point onward. Email Dive has no control over how those companies collect, store, or use your personal information. We recommend reading the privacy policy of any software you are considering purchasing before completing a transaction.

Every article on Email Dive that contains affiliate links carries a disclosure near the top of the page, so you always know when a link is an affiliate link. Our editorial opinions are never influenced by affiliate relationships. You can read more about this in our affiliate disclosure.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you are located, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data. Below is a plain-language summary of the three most relevant frameworks.

EU residents (GDPR): You have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you. You may also restrict or object to how we process your data, and you can request a copy of your data in a portable format.

California residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal data we collect and how it is used. You may request deletion of your data, and you can opt out of the sale of personal data. Note: We do not sell personal data.

Indian residents (DPDP Act): You have the right to access and correct your personal data, to know the purposes for which your data is being processed, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on your consent.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@emaildive.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe.

8. Data retention

Contact form data: We keep messages and the contact details included in them for as long as they remain relevant to the conversation. If you want your information deleted, just ask, and we will remove it promptly.

Comments: Comments are retained as long as they remain published on the site. If you want a comment removed, reach out at contact@emaildive.com.

Analytics data: Google Analytics data is retained for 26 months, following Google’s standard retention settings. You can opt out of this at any time using the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-On.

Server logs: Technical server logs are kept for a limited period as required for security and operational purposes. They are not used for any other purpose.

9. Children’s privacy

Email Dive is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. The content on this site is aimed at business owners, marketers, and professionals evaluating email marketing software.

If you believe a child has submitted personal information to Email Dive, please contact us at contact@emaildive.com, and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time, for example, when our practices change, when we add new third-party services, or when required by applicable law. When we make changes, we will update the “last updated” date at the top of this page.

We recommend checking this page occasionally if you want to stay informed. We will not notify you of every minor edit, but any meaningful change to how we handle your data will be reflected here promptly.
